About Me
Hi, I’m Fatima.
In 2020, when the world shut down and everyone reached for flour and bananas, I reached for my Apple Pencil. I never looked back. (I also never made banana bread. No regrets.)
What started as a way to express myself became Alfaaz Art: my way of keeping Urdu poetry alive where it belongs, in our homes and in our everyday lives.
Urdu carries centuries of wisdom, longing and wit. I pair the words of poets I love, including Ghalib, Iqbal and Faiz, with abstract forms and art inspired by nature, so the poetry has room to breathe.
Words that stay with us
For me, a print is more than something beautiful on a wall. It can be a familiar line that brings you home, a thought you return to, or the words you didn’t quite know you needed.
بول کہ لب آزاد ہیں تیرے
Bol ke lab azaad hain tere.
“Speak, for your lips are free.”
— Faiz Ahmed Faiz
This is one of my favourite shayr. That freedom to express ourselves is part of what brought me to calligraphy, and what keeps me creating.
From my hands to your home
These days, I create between snack negotiations with my two kids, both under four. A lot happens during nap time, with the occasional tiny art critic asking why my letters are “so wiggly.”
I love working on custom requests. If there’s a shayr close to your heart, a meaningful gift you have in mind, or an idea you’d love to bring to life, I’d love to hear it.
Tell me your idea through my custom-request form →
Thank you for bringing a little Urdu into your home, and for making space for the words that matter.
Khush Amdeed. Welcome to your Urdu tribe.
